Volts UAE and Schneider Electric Sign Agreement to Establish Giga-Industrial BESS Facility in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi, UAE – In a significant move towards bolstering the UAE's sustainable energy landscape, Volts UAE Ltd (Volts), a prominent smart energy storage solutions provider, has inked a groundbreaking agreement with Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and industrial automation. This partnership aims to establish a giga-industrial facility in Abu Dhabi for the production of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), marking a major milestone in the region’s energy sector.

Volts UAE has set an ambitious goal to produce approximately 100 million battery units annually, positioning itself as a key player in the global energy storage market. The facility will cater to the growing demand for energy storage systems, particularly in powering homes, electric vehicles, and various industrial applications. This collaboration underscores a shared vision between Volts UAE and Schneider Electric to drive a sustainable and efficient energy future in the UAE.

“This collaboration signifies a shared commitment to shaping a sustainable energy future in the UAE. Together, we are focused on producing energy storage systems that will power homes and electric vehicles, contributing to a cleaner and more efficient energy landscape,” stated Vladimir Mlynchik, Founder of Volts UAE.

Pioneering the Middle East's First Giga-Factory

Volts UAE is spearheading the development of the Middle East’s first giga-factory dedicated to industrial energy storage systems and batteries in Abu Dhabi. As a testament to its global ambitions, Volts has already secured cooperation agreements with industry giants such as Schneider Electric, Honeywell, and CC7 Europe B.V. These partnerships will be pivotal in exploring technological, consulting, and automation services that will drive the production of cutting-edge industrial and home energy storage systems, including advanced battery cells.

Schneider Electric's Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability

Ahmed Khashan, President of Gulf Countries at Schneider Electric, highlighted the importance of this collaboration, stating, "Through this collaboration, Schneider Electric reaffirms its commitment to innovation and industry leadership. This agreement aligns with our mission to be the partner of choice for sustainability, digitization, and decarbonization."

He further added, "With this collaboration, we are steps closer to transformative changes in the UAE's industrial sector, fostering sustainability, innovation, and resilience in line with UAE’s clean energy goals and initiatives, including electrifying mobility."

Strategic Alignment with UAE’s Clean Energy Vision

The partnership was solidified during the COP28 climate negotiations, where Volts UAE also announced plans to establish a specialized research center. This center will focus on developing energy storage systems capable of operating under extreme temperature conditions, reinforcing the UAE's position as a hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation in green energy.

Osama Amir Fadhel, Assistant Undersecretary for the Industrial Accelerators Sector at the UAE Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology, commented on the significance of this partnership. "This MoU signifies how the country provides an ideal environment for investors and major international corporations to set up alongside local industries under a single vision to accelerate sustainable industrial and technological development. This is in line with both the Make it in the Emirates and the UAE Net Zero by 2050 strategic initiative," Fadhel added.

This landmark agreement between Volts UAE and Schneider Electric marks a transformative step in the UAE's journey towards achieving its clean energy goals. By establishing a giga-industrial BESS facility, the partnership is set to play a crucial role in advancing the UAE’s position as a leader in sustainable energy solutions, driving innovation, and supporting the country’s broader vision for a decarbonized future.
